Having lost my Internet connection for 5 days last week really got me behind. However in going through the 1,000+ emails and playing catch-up I couldn't help but notice the following couple of articles regarding salary.
According to CareerBuilder’s recent Staffing & Recruiting Pulse survey, approximately two thirds (67 percent) of staffing firms say candidates’ salary expectations exceed the employers’ offers, an increase of 6 percentage points from last year. The same study also found that one of the most common reasons candidates declined job offers in the last year was because the compensation failed to meet their expectations.
For hiring managers, the lesson is clear: it’s important to stay aware of the most current and accurate compensation statistics to inform your compensation strategy and ensure you’re remaining competitive and balanced.
Salaries increased 5%, over a 10-year period, for employees who negotiated their pay individually – a larger increase than those whose wages were calculated on a basis of set parameters, (such as seniority). This survey also found that both employees and companies benefit from individual salary negotiations. Employees and employers are better off when salaries are negotiated individually, rather than as part of a group, new research finds.
