Duties may include but are not limited to:
-Responsible for overseeing staff and equipment and ensuring safe, efficient dispensing and distribution of medications and products in central outpatient pharmacy.
-Assists the Outpatient Pharmacy Supervisor and other appropriate staff in planning, directing, and coordinating pharmacy service.
-Responsible for performance reviews, commendations for outstanding performance, and disciplinary actions of assigned employees (both outpatient-specific and rotational).
-Resolves problems (technical, interpersonal, customer service, process and policy).
-Serves as an active participant with the Pharmacy Management Team in the planning and implementing of programs, initiatives, and projects that improve safety, quality customer service, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
* U.S. citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
* High School diploma or equivalent.
* Certification by the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) is required at grades GS-6 and above.

GRADE DETERMINATIONS:
GS-8 Experience Requirements: You must possess the equivalent of 1 full year of creditable experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level and must fully meet the KSAs at the next lower level.
In addition, you must demonstrate the following technical KSAs and the potential to acquire the assignment specific KSAs designated by an asterisk (*):

*1. Knowledge of human resource management policies and procedures, and the ability to supervise various levels of pharmacy technicians and other technical personnel (for supervisory assignments).
*2. Ability to apply management and leadership principles.
3. Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
4. Extensive working knowledge of the pharmacy operation.
5. Ability to assess staff needs and provide appropriate training.
*Part-time experience as a pharmacy technician is credited according to its relationship to the full-time workweek. For example, a pharmacy technician would receive 1 week of fulltime credit for each 2 weeks of half-time work.
