This pharmacist serves as a Pharmacy Program Manager for the Academic Detailing program. The incumbent holds a position of high visibility and represents the San Francisco Medical Center and VISN-wide efforts to improve medical care. As such, the incumbent must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The incumbent will consult with VISN and PBM staff to help initiate, develop, validate and execute projects. The incumbent will be expected to exercise initiative and to collaborate effectively with clinical and administrative staff at VISN stations and community-based outpatient clinics to meet performance goals and support quality patient care activities. The incumbent will have knowledge of and will apply marketing techniques in promotion of practice guidelines and other health initiatives. The incumbent will perform data analysis and manipulation to measure performance and to trend changes. As such, the position requires computer expertise, particularly in the area of database programs and data analysis. The incumbent will assist with the pull through of specific goals and a vision for the program and will assist with future program development. Additionally, this pharmacist may work under a scope of practice providing direct patient care up to 25% of the time. Work Schedule:8:00 am to 4:30 pm

  • U.S. citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
    • Education. Graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited College or School of Pharmacy with a baccalaureate degree in pharmacy (BS Pharmacy) and/or a Doctor of Pharmacy(Pharmacy (Pharm.D).D.) degree. Graduates of foreign pharmacy degree programs meet the educational requirement if the graduate is able to provide proof of achieving the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Commission (FPGEC)Certification, which includes passing the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate EquivalencyExamination (FPGEE) and the Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-Based Test (TOEFL IBM).


    • Licensure. Full, current and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia. The pharmacist must maintain current registration if this is a requirement for maintaining full, current, and unrestricted licensure.


      Preferred Experience: Advanced skill in monitoring and assessing the outcome of mental health drug therapies highly preferred.
      GRADE DETERMINATIONS:
      In addition to the GS-12 requirements, must have 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level.
