Job Summary: The primary function of the staff pharmacist is to accurately fill and dispense all prescriptions in a timely manner. This includes patient counseling and physician clarification on prescriptions as well as utilizing professional judgment throughout the prescription filling process and drug inventory management process.
Responsibilities: • Reviews prescription for key data elements against the original prescription to ensure all information is accurately interpreted and recorded in the system’s software; reviews may include: max daily dose, drug/drug or food interactions, therapy duplication, drug coverage and days supply vs. plan design • Performs drug use review if a conflict arises between the prescription and patient profile and resolves questions about drug appropriateness • Verify accuracy of prescriptions to include correct medication dispensed, proper quantity dispensed and proper generic substitution • Clarifies and/or verifies the prescription with outbound prescriber calls via phone or fax and may provide drug information; calls on dosage errors, sig clarification, drug interactions, medication allergies, duplicate therapies and new prescriptions • Addresses potential issues that may jeopardize the health of the patient as well as opportunities to optimize savings including generic substitution for multi-source products • Performs final quality checks ensuring appropriate contents are included in final shipped order • Work with technicians to answer order entry questions • Maintain daily and monthly controlled substance CII inventory; conduct annual inventory • Patient counseling on drug interactions, side effects, storage and tablet identification • Meets and/or exceeds departmental employee performance standards • Maintain a working knowledge of changes in pharmacy practice, laws and drugs applicable to the performance of daily duties • Complete knowledge of pharmacy computer system and prescription workflow • Other duties as assigned
Position Requirements: • Ability to stand on feet 8-10 hours per shift • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds • Ability to sit for extended periods of time • Ability to repetitively reach, bend and stoop • Ability to work with automated production equipment • Ability to work overtime as required • Ability to work a flexible schedule
Minimum Qualifications: • PharmD or Bachelor of Science Pharmacy degree • Current license in good standing with the NM Board of Pharmacy • 2-5 years experience working as a pharmacist
Preferred Qualifications: • 2-3 years experience with Pharmacy Management System • Ability to obtain a license with the Texas Board of Pharmacy within one year of employment • Proficient computer and mathematical skills • Excellent oral and written communication skills • Strong focus on customer service, quality and accuracy • Excellent problem solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively with others • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
