Position Summary:

The Oncology Clinical Informatics/Pharmacoeconomic Specialist is responsible for evaluating and measuring activities associated with the care of cancer patients. New Century Health is in the business of managing healthcare quality and cost using hematologic and oncologic therapeutic management.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Information Technology/Information Systems Clinical Support

  • Support healthcare informatics, systems design, and use of data to drive clinical decisions; optimize clinical workflows; and support operational efficiency. 
  • Work with clinical end-users and the IT/IS/data analytics team to achieve the following goals:
  • Support Oncology Clinical Specialist and IT with clinical rules and pathway alignment  in the following areas:

    1. Clinical information systems , evidence based pathways,  decision support,  and clinical applications
    2. Data warehousing and internet based applications
    3. Technology infrastructure
    4.  Integration of systems and innovation in technology
    5. Systems review and deployment
    6. Maintain clinical information and drug policy database
    7. Assure IT/IS system comply with federal and state healthcare laws and regulations
    8. Work with Product Advisory Board 

  • Key Pharmacy Area and Utilization Management Area Support to the  data analytics/finance team in cost containment initiatives and development of OBI reports in the following areas:
    1. Financial issues and solutions
    2. Pharmaceutical contracts,  distribution, and vendor relations
    3. CIR and QPP report and analyses
    4. UM Clinical process and data analyses

  • Support Provider Relations’ questions and concerns with the CarePro platform and clinical information in the following areas:
    1. User training for internal staff and external health care provider staff
    2. Responses  to  individual CarePro clinical or user issues

Other Duties

  1. Supports the Development of drug or clinical policies and procedures through the use of compendia, clinical guidelines, and peer review medical literature.
  2. Participates in aspects of training such as in-services.
  3. Works with medical directors to determine, establish, and coordinate appropriate drug use guidelines.
  4. Participates in quality management/improvement programs.
  5. Supports the drug therapy management- incorporation of evidenced base medicine through the use of IT platforms, using clinical practice and compendia guidelines in creation of NCH pathways.
  6. May conduct initial clinical review of cases within specialty.
  7. Participates in the Utilization Management Committee.
  8. Respect and maintain HIPAA confidentiality guidelines.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.


Education, Experience & Licensure:

Must be licensed as a pharmacist in the State of California or state of work. Must have completed the required number of continuing education credits and be in good standing with the State Board of Pharmacy. Preferred a Doctor of Pharmacy degree; a minimum of internship, residency, and/or fellowship training. Must have demonstrated expertise with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience.


Skills & Requirements:

Structured and well organized with excellent work ethic. Functions well in a team atmosphere. Knowledge of clinical medicine, outcomes research, disease management, and clinical/translational research. Working knowledge of treatment guidelines, and clinical research processes. Ability to organize, prioritize, and maintain high quality work output in a high paced dynamic environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel). Excellent writing skills as well as the ability to communicate complex material in presentations and discussions in a straightforward manner. Ability to network and partner with key external customers, including pharmaceutical companies, medical thought leaders, academic institutions, large group practices, medical directors and pharmacy directors.
